Before I Sleep is a site-responsive promenade production inspired by The Cherry Orchard, specially designed for the former Co-operative department store on London Road.

The characters in Chekhov’s greatest plays inhabit a world on the verge of collapse. They look out to the future and wonder what life will be like in years to come, unaware that, for them, it is about to change dramatically and irreversibly. Their future is now our present.

132 (no less) of our mannequins have been integrated into the set design and we are very proud to be working with such an exciting production.

The exhibition showcased the favourite outfits of members of the public and explored the stories behind their clothes. ‘My Favourite Outfit’ incorporated clothes from the 1940’s to the present day and included country and western fashion, 70’s maxi dresses and wedding outfits, among others.

“The faceless white mannequins we chose were perfect as they were bland enough to suit a range of styles and ages of clothes, yet human-looking enough to give atmosphere to the room and created the feel of models on a catwalk”.

We are back after a successful trip with the mannequins to Glastonbury Festival. Not only did they stand on stage for the duration, they also appeared with Lady Gaga – when she did her secret gig at Club Dada, Shangri La. We were delighted as she announced how much she enjoyed performing with the mannequins. Kelvin Clone even had his privates fondled by her! (He is now charging double his usual hire fee!) James Brown, famously Kate Moss’ hairdresser hired our female display busts for a charity dress auction in London to raise money for Cancer Research. Dresses were donated by famous names such as Kylie Minogue, Lily Allen, Princess Beatrice and Yasmin Le Bon to name just a few.

Here are some photo’s of the display. The event took place in February 2008.

Nicko, Mr Humphries and Dangerous Dave all feature on the front of the booklet. To say they are ecstatic with this new found stardom would be an understatement!

Roz Mita added, ‘We were very excited to have worked with Joe on this project and even more delighted that 3 of our guys ended up on the front page of the booklet. A real achievement for Mannakin.’

More than 75 scarecrows took part in the trail at the weekend, including those dressed as Noddy and Big Ears, St Trinian’s schoolgirls, a couch potato, Bill Oddie and a traffic warden. More than £10,000 was raised by the event and the money will go towards specialist equipment for the local primary school, internal décor for St Andrew’s Church and safety fencing for the village playground.

His injuries happened after he fell over. Christine Andrews, who had hired him as part of the scarecrow competition commented, ‘Captain Jack was dressed as an Elvis scarecrow and the title was ‘Elvis Isn’t Dead’, but he looked it when he fell over!’

Captain Jack was unable to comment, but his publicist reported that he had really enjoyed this role and wanted his fans to know that it was an accidental falling over and not a result of recent rumours about his alleged tomfoolery.
